The PgMP exam is based on the prevailing standard for program management. As the current PgMP standards are based on “The Standard for Program Management – Fourth Edition”, the exam is based on that specific standard. The fourth edition outlines five program management performance domains. They are:
- Program Strategy Alignment,
- Program Benefits Management,
- Program Stakeholder Engagement,
- Program Governance, and
- Program Lifecycle Management.
The Fourth Edition also specifies a number of program management support processes. They are:
- Program Communications Management
- Program Financial Management
- Program Integration Management
- Program Procurement Management
- Program Quality Management
- Program Resource Management
- Program Risk Management
- Program Schedule Management and
- Program Scope Management.
Based on the above, PMI specifies the PgMP certification exam structure as follows:
- Strategic Program Management (covers 15% of the exam)
- Program Lifecycle (covers 44% of the exam)
- Program Benefits Management (covers 11% of the exam)
- Program Stakeholder Management (covers 16% of the exam)
- Program Governance (covers 14% of the exam)
More details on the above are included here.
